Eco-positive weekly diary #120: Eating vegan ‘tuna’ salad after ages

Posted on January 16, 2020December 3, 2024

Hi there, welcome back into my personal weekly diary. In this diary I want to show you what an eco-positive lifestyle looks like on a daily basis. What choices and habits make my life eco-positive or not? The past week I rounded off some things for my webshop Loose, picked up trash off the streets and went to see 1917 at the Cinema. Let’s see! Here’s eco-positive weekly diary #120.

Thursday

I slept immensely long today and so when I left the house in Harderwijk at 15:15, I didn’t really think about the fact that it takes me 3 hours to get to my house in Haarlem. I use public transportation, the most sustainable way. Once home I had to hurry because I was going for drinks at our student association at school. It was fun! At the end of the night when it’s over they always hand out plastic cups for people who haven’t finished their drinks in glass, because glass can’t go into the hallways. I always drink my drink quickly at that point and refuse the plastic.

Friday

I am going home to Enschede again after school, which takes about 2.5 hours, but again sustainable by public transportation. Once home I took a piece off my coat. I have a (fake) fur around the neck area on my coat. I bought that coat secondhand years ago, but I don’t know if it’s real or fake fur (my mom says it’s fake). Anyway, whether it’s real or fake, I don’t want to walk around in something that looks like a dead animal. I don’t want to send out the massage that it is fashion. Soon, I will get rid of it responsibly, I will bring it to the thrift shop. I had some things to do for my webshop Loose that day, I am rounding everything off the coming month since I decided to hand it over to another business. I also made some lovely vegan sushi that night and I am still going strong with the low-salt soy sauce, I like it.

Saturday

When I woke up today I was quite early for the gym (I went to attend a boxing class) and so I walked our dog Darco. While I walk with him I pick up trash, it’s a win-win! Today I had soy beans for breakfast because I was craving them haha! For dinner I made vegan ‘tuna’ salad, which I hadn’t eaten in a long time, it is so good. At night I went to the Cinema with a friend to see the new movie 1917. I brought my own water bottle to avoid drinking soft drinks and creating waste. I did end up buying popcorn, because that comes in cardboard and I felt like it. The movie 1917 was a bit of a disappointment to me, I felt like it was just like Saving Private Ryan.

Sunday

The meditating is really going well, I have been doing it for a while now and it seems to really get a habit. Today I spent most of my day watching old videos from when I was still a baby with our family and recording a new video for my Youtube-channel. At night I made myself some lasagna. On our holiday from last year in Terschelling I still had some lasagna blades left. I didn’t want to waste them and so I saved them all this time. Today I finally used them. I also made some vegan garlic bread with it which I absolutely love.

Monday

Since I made a lot of lasagna last night, I ate it for breakfast today too. I absolutely don’t mind, I love lasagna. I went to Amsterdam with public transportation again and afterwards to Harderwijk to my boyfriend. We had a lovely Moroccan vegan dish for dinner there.

Tuesday

Since I am free on Tuesdays I have to admit that today was not so special. I traveled back to Haarlem with public transportation again, ate some dinner and went off to handball training.

Wednesday

When I had no homework assigned today, I worked on editing a video. It’s coming out this Friday and I am really exited about it. I really like making content! Also, I started a new tv-show today, ‘Gefileerd’ (Dutch), which is about where our food comes from and I am really excited about it! I also watched some Grey’s Anatomy again, it’s not really informative but I love it!

A few weeks ago I also signed up for Flight Free 2020. It’s a pledge you can sign, to do something about climate change (since flying emits a lot). To not feel alone in this battle (because you surely aren’t!), you can sign the pledge and unite. On the website you can also read stories from others and maybe get some inspiration. You don’t have to be perfect to sign up, you just have to have the intention to not fly. Nobody is perfect, but we can all try. Dutch people can sign up here, but the initiative is global so you can just search for it on Ecosia and sign up.

Favorite song from this week (I make sure I dance occasionally while nobody is watching, it really lifts my mood)!

Yours sincerely,
Romee

ABOUT ME

when a teen goes green

Hi! My name is Romee and I live an eco-positive life. An eco-positive lifestyle is a lifestyle with more positive than negative impact on beautiful planet earth. Compared to most people, I live extremely sustainable. I don’t fly, eat meat or animal products, buy only secondhand clothing, etc. On the other hand, I try to help others as much as I can by donating a big chunk of my income, donating plasma, donating poop (yes!), volunteering, etc. On this blog you can read all about my lifestyle with only positive impact. I also have a Dutch Youtube channel (@duurzaamleven) and Dutch Instagram (@duurzaamlevenro). If you have specific questions for me, feel free to ask me anything.

Yours sincerely,
Romee (she/her)
