Eco-positive weekly diary #139: piercing my ear!

Posted on October 15, 2020July 6, 2023

Hi there! Welcome back into my personal weekly diary. In these weekly diaries I try to show you what an eco-positive lifestyle looks like on a daily basis and what choices and habits I’ve created to make this lifestyle standard. The past week I bought 3 new secondhand items, decided to quit buying flowers for other people and came up with a sustainable investing strategy! Want to read along? Here’s eco-positive weekly diary #139.

Thursday

After some contact with my new employer, I finally found out how to do the online training I am supposed to do. And so today, I did only that all day. It feels good to have it done! I also wore the new secondhand sweater I bought yesterday and it is very comfy. Very warm and it doesn’t itch. A good purchase!

Friday

Starting off today, I did some groceries at Ekoplaza (a store that only sells organic food). I am going to my grandma today for her birthday. I normally buy flowers, but I decided to quit doing that. It’s not a gift I support. Growing flowers is not a sustainable proces and it is basically a single-use item, you throw them away after one week. I think it’s unnecessary and so I decided to buy something else. Some organic snacks! I bought chocolate, chips, lemonade and tea! A little package and I think she liked it very much!

Saturday

Big day today! Yesterday, I made an appointment at a piercing shop and today I going there to get them! Two helix piercings, in one ear. I’ve been wanting for a long time, because I was doubting sustainability-wise. In the end, I just did it, because I’ll figure it out. Right now, I got titanium steels. You can’t choose anything else when you first get piercings. But after 6 months, you’re allowed to choose something else. I will search for secondhand piercings or recycled gold. It was scary, I didn’t know what to expect. But the piercing itself didn’t hurt that much. Afterwards was worse, the entire day. And I had to sleep on one ear haha! All in all, it’s not that much of a big deal. I now clean it with special soap and disinfection spray. Not zero waste, but very necessary! It happy I finally have them even though it might not be the most sustainable thing to do. You shouldn’t compromise your happiness because of sustainability.

Sunday

In the afternoon, I went to a friend in Enschede. I hadn’t seen her in a while, since I now live in Groningen. It was good to see her again and we played some Rummikub (a board game). I also watched some more Netflix, I am currently watching The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez and it so intense. Also, I made vegan tuna salad again for dinner. I love that salad!

Monday

What a chaotic day! Something with work and it was unclear at first. As it turns out, I am still on the waiting list for the training I have to follow for work. That means I am still free this entire week. That made me decide to go back to Groningen again, because I can do much more there, all my stuff is in my own home. So after dinner, I went back by train to Groningen. I feel like traveling since I moved to Groningen is going good so far. I almost always travel by train and not that much anymore. The photo you see below is a magnificent tip from me, apple with peanut butter! Such a lovely snack, you should try it out some time!

Tuesday

Back in Groningen and I started with the good habits again right a way! I made myself a good green smoothie for breakfast and lended some new books. My boyfriend and I went into the city center as well to get some food, a tiny celebration because of my new job (tiny, because it’s not really a time to celebrate). I had an amazing vegan donut, muffin and falafel! I also picked up a Vinted package again, I had ordered secondhand fancy heels. They look amazing and I couldn’t be happier with them. Now I hope I can walk on them for an entire day (most heals aren’t so comfy).

Wednesday

Today was all about finances. I had already made a budget a while back, but now that I precisely know what my paycheck is I wanted to do it again. It was mostly to see how much money I would have left for saving, investing and donating. That’s the most fun part of budgeting if you’d ask me. I finally listed the 10 charities I wanted to donate to and scheduled the yearly payments. My investing strategy is all done and automated too! I am quite happy with the result, during the work I even forgot to have breakfast. I’ll share about the charities and investing on here soon! At 2 PM I finally did have breakfast, with some ice-cream, I blended some frozen bananas and strawberries with water, hmmmm.

ABOUT ME

when a teen goes green

Hi! My name is Romee and I live an eco-positive life. An eco-positive lifestyle is a lifestyle with more positive than negative impact on beautiful planet earth. Compared to most people, I live extremely sustainable. I don’t fly, eat meat or animal products, buy only secondhand clothing, etc. On the other hand, I try to help others as much as I can by donating a big chunk of my income, donating plasma, donating poop (yes!), volunteering, etc. On this blog you can read all about my lifestyle with only positive impact. I also have a Dutch Youtube channel (@duurzaamleven) and Dutch Instagram (@duurzaamlevenro). If you have specific questions for me, feel free to ask me anything.

Yours sincerely,
Romee (she/her)
