Category: Sustainable and Fair Fashion

In this category I try to share how to buy clothes that don’t harm the planet or the people making it. Shortly said, sustainable and fair fashion. I also try to inform you about the opposite product, fast fashion. And what’s so harmful about fast fashion. If you know what it is, you know how to avoid fast fashion. And how to choose for sustainable and fair fashion instead. This way we can all look fashionable, but still have a happy, healthy environment.

Why I Avoid Wearing Clothing with Brands Showing

Posted on October 4, 2021January 16, 2025

I’ve made the switch to secondhand clothing a long time ago. This means that the habit of buying (almost) no new clothing is quite easy for me. I know where to look and what to look for when it comes to secondhand clothing. The next step was not buying any plastic clothes anymore and that’s…

The relationship between fast fashion and feminism

Posted on July 26, 2021January 15, 2025

I think all people are secretly feminists. Feminists want equal rights for all genders. I mean, who doesn’t want equal rights for everybody? Some people think of something dirty when they hear the word feminist. I don’t understand this. And also, calling yourself a feminist is just the very beginning. It’s the first step and…

Finding ethical fashion: Good on You

Posted on May 24, 2021January 15, 2025

As you might know by now, I avoid buying new clothes. It works 99% of the time, but there are is that 1% when it doesn’t work out. There are some things that need to be bought new. But if I do buy new, I buy ethical. If there is a sustainable and fair option,…

3 Secondhand Clothing Items I Bought

Posted on February 8, 2021January 13, 2025

Hi everyone! I know, it’s the midst of a pandemic and maybe not the best time to buy clothing, but I couldn’t resist. I bought 3 pieces of clothing and I’m loving them, I couldn’t wait to share. Of course I did buy secondhand, like I do in 99% of my purchases. Every once in…

6 secondhand clothing items I bought

Posted on November 16, 2020January 7, 2025

Over the past months (my guess would be about 6 months) I bought 6 secondhand clothing items. Now that I write this down it seems like quite a bit. Yet, I’ve gotten rid of even more and so I’m still working on that capsule wardrobe I aspire to have. With these new purchases I really…

What’s wrong with fast and cheap fashion?

Posted on September 21, 2020January 6, 2025

Yesterday, I walked by Primark. Right away, I saw their greenwashing practices. Vague statements about sustainable fabrics and all that. I know better than that, Primark is horrible. Yet maybe, if you don’t know much about fast fashion, you’ll fall for it. It made me think about that. I have written about fair and secondhand…

Buying vintage jewelry

Posted on April 20, 2020December 30, 2024

A few years ago I graduated and therefore I got some money from my grandparents to buy a ring. I could choose any kind, for them it was just important that I had an item to remember them by. At the time I was a beginner when it comes to buying secondhand, but my dad…

What I wear in a random week

Posted on April 13, 2020December 30, 2024

I’ve written a lot about secondhand fashion already. Whether I think it’s the solution to the fashion crises we’re facing, what clothes I got rid of or bought and even a guide on how you can create a sustainable wardrobe. I always say that I am well on my way to a sustainable wardrobe and…

How to get rid of clothes in a responsible way

Posted on March 30, 2020June 29, 2025

I am on a journey to my ultimate capsule wardrobe. A capsule wardrobe can have many forms and has a different meaning to different people. To me it is a small wardrobe with items that I love and can all match. It is an ongoing journey. And so I buy things, but also get rid…

36 clothing items I got rid of

Posted on February 10, 2020December 13, 2024

One of my long-term goals is to have a capsule wardrobe. A capsule wardrobe is minimalist wardrobe. Every person has a different meaning for it, some want a certain number of items, some want to wear everything which is in there. Since I work towards a minimal wardrobe, I am critical every day and get…

ABOUT ME

when a teen goes green

Hi! My name is Romee and I live an eco-positive life. An eco-positive lifestyle is a lifestyle with more positive than negative impact on beautiful planet earth. Compared to most people, I live extremely sustainable. I don’t fly, eat meat or animal products, buy only secondhand clothing, etc. On the other hand, I try to help others as much as I can by donating a big chunk of my income, donating plasma, donating poop (yes!), volunteering, etc. On this blog you can read all about my lifestyle with only positive impact. I also have a Dutch Youtube channel (@duurzaamleven) and Dutch Instagram (@duurzaamlevenro). If you have specific questions for me, feel free to ask me anything.

Yours sincerely,
Romee (she/her)
