Category: Veganism

Veganism is unfortunately still highly misunderstood today. I think that’s a sin, since it is a lifestyle full of compassion. So, in this category I want to share practical posts on veganism, but also informational posts. From the how-to’s, to the why.

Vegan restaurants in Enschede

Vegan restaurants in Enschede

Posted on May 12, 2025May 4, 2025

About one year ago, I posted an article about all the sustainable hotspots in Enschede. It consisted of vegan restaurants and secondhand clothing hotspots. In hindsight, I am not happy with that article, because it’s actually two things in one. This combination makes both the vegan restaurants and secondhand clothing shops hard to find (on…

Why vegan food is usually not vegan

Posted on December 23, 2024December 18, 2024

Ethical veganism is a spectrum. Everyone who lives a vegan lifestyle tries to limit the harm and use of animals as best as they can. For some vegans this means that they don’t eat animal products, for other this means they also don’t buy clothing made of animal products or cosmetics which are tested on…

Why I think buying pets is unethical

Posted on November 11, 2024November 12, 2024

I follow a 100% plant-based diet. People who do this have many different reasons for it. For me the biggest reason is that I’m an ethical vegan. My main reason for eating plant-based is my viewpoint on animal abuse. Therefore, I think I am one of the few people who can say they love animals…

The bloodwork of a vegan

Posted on July 1, 2024January 27, 2025

A few weeks back I shared what I eat as a vegan for the 5th time on this blog. The goal of those food diaries is to show you what vegans eat (or at least, this vegan), in hope to inspire you to do the same. I think killing animals for no good reason is…

What I eat in a week as a vegan – 2024 edition

Posted on June 10, 2024January 27, 2025

It’s been more than a year since I shared what I eat in a week as a vegan, in March 2023. I also shared food diaries in 2022, 2019 and 2018. I think it’s important to share what I eat as a vegan, since many people have no clue what vegans eat. And I personally…

The ‘Beter Leven’ label on meat explained

Posted on June 3, 2024January 27, 2025

If you tell Dutch people there’s someone in their neighborhood who is gassing pigs or cutting off their tails, people are disgusted and mad. They think this person should be tracked down and prosecuted. When you tell them that it’s a company doing this, a slaughterhouse or a farmer, then they don’t seem to care….

A list of all animal sanctuaries around the world

Posted on November 20, 2023January 24, 2025

This article is a list of all animal sanctuaries around the world. This article is also one that I’ve been postponing for years now. It’s the first thing on my list of things I want to write about and that list is in chronological order of ideas. I never started this article because this list…

An image to compliment the argument I'm making. You cannot call yourself an animal lover when you're not vegan. It's an image of me kneeling down with my dog, a french bulldog, at the beach. I smile at the camera and my dog looks at the camera too.

You cannot call yourself an animal lover when you’re not vegan

Posted on July 3, 2023January 23, 2025

I am not going to make myself very popular with this post. But that’s okay, most vegans are unpopular. Because we make non-vegans feel uncomfortable. I’ve had conversations where this happened. Why? Because I argue that you cannot call yourself an animal lover when you’re not vegan. Most non-vegans can call themselves a pet lover….

The best vegan ice-cream, desserts and yoghurt

Posted on May 29, 2023January 23, 2025

I think this post will be the last one in the ‘best vegan product’-category. So far I wrote about the best vegan meat, fish, eggs & cheese, milk and butter. That covers just about everthing. Today I finish the series by writing about the best vegan ice-cream, yoghurt and desserts. But that does not mean…

I am a poop donor

Posted on May 22, 2023January 23, 2025

This title may seem clickbait. Because for some people this sounds insane. However, it is 100% true. I am a poop donor. And the story gets ever crazier. People may be cured from a certain disease with my poop. I say may because I am a poop donor in a scientific research program. Today I…

ABOUT ME

when a teen goes green

Hi! My name is Romee and I live an eco-positive life. An eco-positive lifestyle is a lifestyle with more positive than negative impact on beautiful planet earth. Compared to most people, I live extremely sustainable. I don’t fly, eat meat or animal products, buy only secondhand clothing, etc. On the other hand, I try to help others as much as I can by donating a big chunk of my income, donating plasma, donating poop (yes!), volunteering, etc. On this blog you can read all about my lifestyle with only positive impact. I also have a Dutch Youtube channel (@duurzaamleven) and Dutch Instagram (@duurzaamlevenro). If you have specific questions for me, feel free to ask me anything.

Yours sincerely,
Romee (she/her)
