When I go out the door there are a number of things I keep in my bag, standard. You might recognize this. When you try to live a zero waste lifestyle the items you keep in your bag are essential, you need them in tricky, potentially wasteful situations. Since a while I’ve added a new…

Today I’m sharing something about waste (surprise!). But not the kind of waste that I normally write about. Today I want to write about wasting water. Because this waste is just as important as trash, wasting water is terrible. I want to tell you about a trick I use to save a lot of water….

This week I’m writing about brushing my teeth again. Just like I wrote before about a zero waste toothbrush. This time, I want to tell you about the stuff you put on the toothbrush, toothpaste. Very important to use (even though I read somewhere that it’s more important to brush than to use toothpaste, but…

Zero waste essential: a reusable bag

In the past two years that I’ve been working as a cashier, I have seen hundreds, maybe thousand of plastic bags come by. It’s horrendous. People put the weirdest things in plastic. A bunch of bananas, leek or lettuce. I’ve even seen people put plastic bags around plastic bags. Really, I kid you not. Today…

No cup of tea, but a cup of party! This post is about parties. And I love parties! Parties with friends, music, drinks, snacks and a lot of fun. But! Yes, there is a but unfortunately. Some parties don’t fit into a zero waste lifestyle per se. That’s because of the horrible disposable cups that…

How to get rid of junk mail

This week a step towards zero waste which is easy, really easy! Today I want to talk about physical mail, junk mail in particular. Household in The Netherlands who don’t take action receive 32 kilos of paper advertisements each year (MilieuCentraal)! And that’s only advertisements, no normal mail, magazines, the newspaper etc. I think it’s…

Besides going through my waste on a regular basis, I do something else to see where I can improve on zero waste. I look at my daily routines. And the second thing I do in the morning (first is peeing haha) is brushing my teeth. With a fresh mouth I start off a fresh day!…

Sometimes my parents join me in my zero waste lifestyle. And when that happens, I love this lifestyle even more. Zero waste does not have to cost a lot of effort of money all the time, sometimes switches are quite easy! That’s why I present an easy zero waste switch to you today: a baking…

Why most people should use reusable straws

A while back I went into the city center with some friends to get some drinks at a cafe. I wanted an ice tea and so I ordered: ‘Can I have an ice tea without a straw please?’. The waitress looked at me strange and so did my friends. But why is this so odd?…

Periods! Most people with uteruses have experienced them. Not much fun for us (if you’d ask me), not for the planet. That’s because right now most people use sanitary towels or tampons, single use items. Those end up at landfill, or even worse, in the sewage system. Luckily there are multiple ways to have a…

ABOUT ME

Hi! My name is Romee Hoeksma and I am on a journey to an eco-positive life. An eco-positive lifestyle is a lifestyle in which I have a more positive than negative impact on the beautiful planet earth. On this blog you can follow my journey to a life with only positive impact. At this blog you can find all sorts of things, from tips to recipes to personal experiences, but most of all fun (I hope!). I write about how I want to change the world, but don’t look at it as if I’m judging you. If anything, I like responses from my dear readers the most, so don’t hesitate to contact me or respond to any of my posts!

Yours sincerely,
Romee
