Under the category ‘intersectional feminism‘ I would like to write about all forms of oppression. Starting that category, I wrote something about intersectional feminism in general. After that it was time to write something about the general forms of oppression within intersectional feminism. The first subject I wrote about was ableism. Now it’s time to cover another category: racism.

Documentary: 13th

I have always been fascinated by incarceration. Locking people up in small areas, sometimes for their entire life. Why? How? This fascination even led me to do my internship in a Dutch prison back in 2017. I then saw everything from up front. I don’t know if I still would choose the same internship now in 2022, because my views have changed. But the fascination about incarceration has stayed. This led me to watch a documentary which shines light on mass incarceration in relation to racism in the United States. Today I am sharing this documentary with you: 13th.

The Climate Crisis is an Equity Issue

When I started this whole journey towards an eco-positive lifestyle, I started out with trying to live zero waste. I saw pictures of the polluted seas and read about the environment. I wanted to make the earth a better place by changing my behavior. And this aspect is something I also hear people talk about all the time: we have to save the planet, the environment, the oceans. And even though I think this is true, I don’t think it’s just about the planet. It’s about us, humans. Over the years I’ve learned that all the things I do for the sake of the planet or environment are mostly issues about equity. We need to start seeing the climate crisis as an equity issue. And we need equity for all humans.

My personal opinion on human migration

Migration. It’s a huuuuge topic in The Netherlands if we’re talking about politics and if you’d ask me: it always has been. In my personal experience The Netherlands is a hostile country, most people are not happy with new people coming in. Especially if they’re refugees, oh my. I feel like migration is a topic in The Netherlands that isn’t even about people anymore, it’s considered a problem. That’s a part of Dutch culture I don’t identify with at all, I despite it. And so today I want to share my personal opinion on human migration.
