Amsterdam to Budapest by Train

If I remember correctly, I took my last flight in 2018. After that last flight, I decided to stop flying to holiday destinations, as we’re in the middle of a climate crisis. However, that does not mean I won’t go on holidays at all anymore. The contradictory is true! And so, this past summer I went on a holiday again, to Budapest. The most sustainable way to travel there is by train (leaving biking and walking aside, haha). And so that’s what I did. I traveled from Amsterdam to Budapest by train. In this post I’ll tell you all about that journey.

My packing list for Ameland 2020

I think it’s not uncommon this year, I went on a holiday in my own country. Ameland to be specific, a Dutch Island (there are about 6 nearby). A lot of Dutch people will do the same due to the coronavirus, which is one of the few good things about this pandemic, less flights. I think going on a holiday is a good test on minimalism, how much stuff do I think I need in just 7 days? Today I want to show my packing list for Ameland 2020 and evaluate it at the same time.

Going vegan vs. stop traveling

Today I want to make a statement. Something that really goes for me and my journey towards a sustainable lifestyle. In general, I’d say living an eco-positive lifestyle is not hard (maybe I can’t say that just yet, since I am not there yet, but I am doing it anyway). However, there are some aspects which I find way easier than others. Going vegan vs. stop traveling, I’ll tell you which one is easiest.

Save resources with a dynamo on your bike

Using your bike instead of your car, it’s something people try to do when they want to live more sustainable. It’s a direct win, no oil or gas needs to be used and so, less climate change and pollution. But today there’s another part of your bike ride that I’d like to discuss: your lights. Because there’s even more you can save than oil or gas: batteries! By generating the energy yourself with a dynamo. You can save resources with a dynamo on your bike.

How to Stop Flying

This time of the year people are starting to plan their summer holidays again. Yet, flying has been under a lot of attention the last couple of years. It’s a way of travelling that is so environmentally destructive, it’s insane. Flying is very harmful in the climate change crisis, but there’s one aspect of it that makes it a hard subject: it’s non-replaceable. For all the transportation means, there are sustainable alternatives. We have electric cars, busses and trains. We don’t have electrical planes. That’s why I swore off the plane for now. It’s just not sustainable. I am telling you all about how to stop flying.

Traveling from Albufeira to Amsterdam by Train

This post is a follow-up from the post from last week. I’ve made the decision to ditch the plane because it’s not sustainable at all. Last week I shared the outward journey by train from Haarlem to Albufeira. Overall conclusion: easier than expected. This week I’ll share my return. I went from our apartment in Albufeira to Weesp (very close to Amsterdam)in The Netherlands. Traveling from Albufeira to Amsterdam by train, how did that go?

Sustainable and Fun Hotspots in Berlin

A few weeks ago I went to Berlin with my boyfriend for a weekend. Even though I had a blast, a weekend is too short. Berlin is huge! And amazing at the same time. So much to see, so many hotspots, a woman from the bike tour we did told us Berlin is six times larger than Paris! In this blogpost I want to tell you about the things we went to, so that when you visit Berlin, you’ll have a blast too. I’ll post it today, but I’m sure I’ll edit it through time, since I’ll definitely go back one day (or more!). So, here it is. A blogpost about the sustainable and fun hotspots Berlin.

I’ve decided to get my drivers license! Why?

Cars are not sustainable, they pollute the air by the carbon dioxide they release. Especially with all the cars we have right now on this planet, we have a problem. For a long while, I had chosen not to be a part of that problem. This had multiple reasons, which I’ll come to later. However, I’ve made up my mind after a long time. I’ve decided to get my drivers license. Today I’ll tell you why.

Amsterdam to Albufeira by Train

When I calculated my impact last year, I knew something had to change. I was doing quite well, because I live vegan and buy most of my stuff secondhand, but flying seemed to be a major issue. I could fly and still have the amount of eco-points to live a sustainable life. But, I want to live as sustainable as I can, so that means the less negative impact, the better. So, I decided to quit flying by plane! But, I am going on a holiday this year! By train. Today I’ll tell you how I will travel from Amsterdam to Albufeira by train.
