The last secondhand clothing inspiration of 2022

Posted on February 6, 2023March 21, 2023

In 2022 I shared 4 posts about some secondhand clothing I bought. In each post I came to the same conclusion: I am doing good, but not good enough. I want to buy less. From this point on I want to challenge myself more. From 2023 onwards, I will write about the secondhand clothing I bought just once a year. So, for 2023, I will have one post about all the things I bought in that single year. But, I can’t leave 2022 behind. Consequently, this is one last final post, in which I am sharing about the secondhand clothing I bought in the last part of 2022. Here’s some secondhand clothing inspiration.

More than I want

Previously, I shared 10 items in each post I shared. So, when I bought 10 items, I wrote a post. But that alone shows that I buy too much. I want to be able to write just a post about the secondhand clothing that I bought just once a year. I decided not to start doing that when I buy less clothing. No, I am doing this now, to force myself to buy less. I will tell you about the last secondhand clothing items that I bought in 2022, so that in 2023, I start with a clean sheet. From this year on, it’s one post a year.

Here’s the secondhand clothing I bought in the last part of 2022. Beware: I only list the secondhand items I bought here. I do not list the new things (I include those in another post, if I bought them), nor items that were free hand-me-downs.

1 Black sweater with leopard print on the sleeves | May 2022

In May I went shopping with my mom because I needed some sweaters for winter. I found a perfect one in the secondhand shop Het Goed in Enschede. This sweater is exactly my style. Quite a high neck, which I love. And the model is a little loose, I love that. I think I have worn this sweater over 50 times already, since I bought it back in May. The sweater is originally from Primark so that’s a disaster for the quality, but still, I am hoping this sweater will last me years because I absolutely love it. I bought it for 3,95 euros.

2 Black turtleneck shirt | May 2022

Turtlenecks are something I love wearing. I think they look good on me. But oh my, they are hand to find secondhand. But in May on that shopping trip at Het Goed in Enschede I found this black one. I was sceptical at first and thought it would not fit me anyway. But I decided to give it a try and it suits me perfectly. This black turtle neck is something I have worn a lot already and it cost me 3,95 euros. I now have two black turtleneck shirts and one purple one. I think I would like one extra still, because I am often looking for them and then I realize they’re in laundry. So one extra would be nice. Not black, but a different color.

3 Black legging | May 2022

I know, leggings are so 2001. However, I think they’re comfy. I bought this one because I am kind of done with tights in winter, they’re way too cold. In winter I want to wear something warm, like this legging. However, this legging is too short for that. I need a longer legging that comes up to my ankles, because this one does not. But I still find this legging very useful, because I use it as an extra layer in winter. I wear it underneath my pants, which is perfect. And coming summer I will probably will wear it with a simple t-shirt too. I bought this black legging for 1,95 euros at Het Goed in Enschede as well.

4 Black pants | May 2022

We’re really staying in the black trend haha, because here’s another black item. A very neat pants, black with white lines. With the first 3 items I was very happy. But with this one not so much, I have worn it three times now, maximum. When I wear it the cross hangs really low, which makes my butt look weird. I don’t know if this is a keeper. That bugs me, because apparently, I did not think this purchase through. I will keep this pants a little while longer, to give it another chance. I bought this pants for 6,95 euros at Het Goed in Enschede.

5 Red top with open sides | July 2022

Back to something which I absolutely love: this red top. It’s something I need to wear without a bra, which I never thought I’d be comfortable with. But instead, it makes me feel really good. So far, I have worn it a lot in summer, usually with a simple jeans. I love it when simplicity just works. I bought this red top for 6,95 euros at Het Goed in Enschede. That’s quite expensive for a secondhand top, but the fabric really is thick. I can tell the quality is great and therefore I hope this top will last me years.

6 Black rebel t-shirt | July 2022

In 2021 I had a rare find in a secondhand shop in Enschede, I bought a grey rebel t-shirt. I liked and wore it so much that I felt like I wanted another one, because this one was in laundry often. I wanted the same model and brand, because I really liked the grey one. And so, I searched for a shirt on Vinted. There you can filter on the exact same brand and size. Ultimately, I found this black rebel t-shirt on Vinted for 3 euros and I bought it. The model is unfortunately a little different from the grey one. However, I still love this one and have worn it a lot already.

7 Blue shorts | August 2022

In August of 2022 I was in Sneek, with some friends. A friend of mine and me visited this really cute secondhand clothing store. And I bought quite some things there. The first one is this blue shorts. Before summer started I got rid of one shorts and I really felt I needed one to replace it. Luckily I found this cute blue one in Sneek. I love it because it’s a stretch model. It therefore fits me perfectly and does not give me belly pain when I sit for a long time. So far, I wore it a lot, especially during Sziget 2022. It cost me 5 euros at ‘t Grachtje in Sneek.

8 White t-shirt | August 2022

A white t-shirt, that does not sound exciting. However, this t-shirt is an item I am extremely excited about. The model is what really makes me love it. It’s acryl, which I normally don’t buy because it makes me sweat a lot and is not that sustainable. However, this t-shirt felt really good, like cotton. The t-shirt is very straight and heavy, so it does not crease easily (the picture shows otherwise, but well…). I love to wear this t-shirt with a simple denim jeans. That simplicity is great. The t-shirt is also quite thick and so I hope this will last me years. I spend 11 euros on it at ‘t Grachtje in Sneek.

9 Black/leopard printed t-shirt | August 2022

Onto an item I am not that excited about anymore. Ugh, I really hoped those wouldn’t be on my lists anymore. This is another item I bought at ‘t Grachtje in Sneek, for 5 euros. But the problem is that the t-shirt is too tight, which is just not my style at all. I like loose and baggy shirts. Somehow, I ignored that when I bought this shirt. Somehow, I liked it at that point. I mean, it’s also not that tight. It’s probably the leopard print that make me buy it, I always love that. I have not worn this shirt a lot and if I won’t again this next summer I will get rid of it. Note to self: don’t buy tight t-shirts.

10 Yellow top | August 2022

Back to something that makes me happy. At ‘t Grachtje in Sneek I bought this yellow top for 1,95 euros. So cheap. I first doubted whether I should buy it or not, because my boobs look quite prominent in it. I mean, I am comfortable with my breasts, but somehow I am affected by society, saying that women should not reveal themselves too much. Well, screw that. I bought this top. And ever since, I have worn it a lot. It’s nice to wear with a long denim jeans, but also with shorts. I am just grateful that I feel so happy about something which only cost me 1,95 euros.

11 Blocked pants | August 2022

Off to the last item I bought at that store, ‘t Grachtje in Sneek. This blocked pants which I bought for 8 euros. I honestly don’t know how to feel about this purchase, because it has two sides. I love the look and feel like the pants looks good on me. However, it does not fit me, it’s too big. Especially during the mornings. Consequently, I asked my mother if she could make it a little smaller. She could and did, so sweet! However, it’s still too big. My mom will alter it again to make it a little smaller again. That’s why I don’t have pictures of it right now. I think it’s very sweet that she repaires it for me, but maybe I shouldn’t have bought this pants in the first place. I at least hope it will last me years.

12 Beige dress | September 2022

I think this is the item. The item, out of all the items I bought in 2022, I love the most. I have not worn it that much, because it asks for specific weather conditions. However, this dress was an extremely rare find. I didn’t find it, my mom did. She tried it on and loved it. I loved it so much as well that I asked her if we could share it. She agreed to that. The model of this dress is just amazing and the fabric is too. It’s really light and comfy. So, you look amazing, but it feels comfy. That’s all I could ask for. I paid 12,50 euros for this dress at VindIets in Enschede.

13 White all-stars | September 2022

I have always had white all-stars. However, this past year Converse introduced some new models. And so, instead of buying the classic ones secondhand, I chose a new model, which I still bought secondhand. I’m hoping this model will last me longer because it has a sticker base. The problem I had with all-stars was always that it broke at the point where the shoe bends, in the front. This model cannot bend and so I feel like it can’t break either. But besides that functionality, I also just love it aesthetically. This model is pretty and the brand is not showing too prominently either. I have worn these shoes a lot past summer, but I do not wear them during winter. I want to keep them as white as I can for as long as I can. And the winter weather in The Netherlands is no good for that. I bought these secondhand all-stars for 60 euros via Vinted.

14 Black helmet | October 2022

I don’t really know if I can call this clothing. In theory, a helmet is an accessory. In October 2022 I saw a tv-show in which the host explained how ignorant it really is to not wear a helmet on your bike. Wearing a helmet decreases the risk of serious brain damage with 81%. I was convinced and wanted a helmet. I bought one secondhand on Marktplaats for 8 euros. People don’t recommend buying things like these secondhand because it’s about safety, but I chose a helmet that was secondhand but never used. It was still packed in the original packaging. Ever since I made that purchase I’ve been wearing this helmet.

15 Several pairs of socks | October 2022

2022 was the first time that I actually needed socks again. My dad always buys a lot of socks, so I used to get his old ones. However, I decided to stop accepting those socks, because they’re always low. And I don’t like low socks. Actually, I needed some high socks. High, thick socks which would not break easily and did not show any brands (because I don’t want to be anyone’s billboard). I found about 6 pairs of white ones for 2 euros and a purple and beige pair for 5 euros on Vinted. The white ones are actually too big, because the ad said size 39, but it was actually 39-42. I still have to see if I’ll keep them. But the purple and beige pair are perfect.

16 Yellow rain coat | November 2022

In one of the last post that I wrote about the secondhand clothing that I bought I also listed a rain suit. However, not long after I had it, the zipper of the rain coat started to break. I could get it repaired, but I felt like the rain coat was also a little too small for me. And so, I searched for another one. I found this beautiful yellow one on Vinted for just 8 euros. So far, I have worn it a lot (The Netherlands is a rainy country). Not only does it protect me from the rain very well, I also love the color and the fit. Sometimes I even wear this coat when it’s not raining at all. It has no zipper on the front, but on the sides. This makes extra room in the pockets, which is very useful.

17 Thermal Shirt | November 2022

In October 2022 I started a full-time job. Ever since, it’s been great! However, I sit and stand a lot (I switch every hour). And since I don’t move much when I stand or sit, I get cold at the office. That’s very uncomfortable. I always wear 2/3 layers of clothing and a scarf. But often, it’s not enough. And so, I decided to buy a thermal shirt. I found this black one on Vinted for 1 euro. I have worn it a few times, but I am unsure about it. It’s made out of polyester and I don’t always like that because it makes me sweat a lot. I took that for granted when I bought the shirt because thermal shirts are almost always made out of polyester. Luckily, I bought only one and no more. I’ll see how much I’ll use it from now on.

18 Brown Jersey

The story of this jersey is the same as for the legging I listed. Tights are just a little too cold in winter, so I needed a jersey. I bought this brown jersey on Vinted for 2 euros. However, I had not seen that it was brown. On the picture it appeared to be black and I did not read the ad right. Once I got it I was a little disappointed, but that’s okay. It’s not the color I wanted but right now I mostly wear it underneath my clothing, to keep me extra warm in water. Next time I need to look better, but for this small purchase it’s not such a big problem.

Yours sincerely,
Romee
