Vegan restaurants in Edinburgh

Posted on July 29, 2024January 27, 2025

In May of this year I visited Scotland, by train, for about a week with my dad. We stayed in Edinburgh for a few days and then traveled further north. My dad left the planning of the entire trip up to me, as it was a trip he gifted to me when I graduating my Master of Science in 2022. As I was in charge of the planning, we visited a vegan restaurant every day (haha). Today I want to share the vegan restaurants in Edinburgh that I personally loved.

Ever-evolving list

This list of vegan restaurants only consists of 3 places right now. But this list is ever-evolving. Whenever I discover a new vegan place in Edinburgh, I will add it to this list.

Meaddows tap

Meaddows tap is a bar/pub, not really a restaurant. It’s not therefore not that fancy or anything. It’s a pub with places to sit. I personally really liked the place, as it is low-key and quite fun. The food is fast food, which I love every once in a while. Burgers, loaded fries, milkshakes, those kind of things. The prices at Meaddows tap are good if you’d ask me. If you order one loaded fries, I think you’d be pretty full already. One loaded fries costs about 7 pounds. I personally also ordered a burger and some extra fries to share with dad, but I am a big eater haha. The food was amazing. I had the Macaro-nae cheese dirty fries and the Rabbit the bruce burger. Both delicious, and my dad liked the food too!
Accessibility: the chairs are packed pretty close together, but other than that I’d say this place is accessible to people using a wheelchair. I did not see any braille menu options.
Location: 27 Causewayside, Edinburgh.

Novapizza

This is my favorite vegan restaurant in Edinburgh. If you have to pick one because you have little time, pick this one. Novapizza is a vegan Italian restaurant. And honestly, I haven’t seen many of those at all since I’ve gone vegan. So that alone is special. However, this vegan italian is also amazingly good because it mimics any other Italian restaurant. You can get all the traditional dishes here. From pasta carbonara to foccacia. I ordered some antipasti, burrata, and the rieti pizza. Oh my, the food is good. I could eat here every week. I would love to try more from their menu, so I would love to come back some time. The drinks in this restaurant are also pretty great, because they don’t serve the standard Pepsi or Coca Cola from multinationals, but more special drinks by small businesses. They gluten free menu is also very extensive.
Accessibility: I’d say Novapizza is not accessible to people using a wheelchar. There’s a small step at the entrance, the restaurant is tiny and very packed and the bathroom is too small as well. I did not see any braille menu options.
Location: 42 Howe street, Edinburgh.

Soul Vegan

This restaurant offers vegan Malasian food. It’s a restaurant and it looks very good too, but don’t expect to sit here all night. The food is ready extremely fast. I personally don’t mind this, but it’s good to know. The food itself at Soul Vegan was very tasty and my dad really liked it too. Small point of critique is that many dishes are fried. It’s therefore difficult to get many different textures on your table. I personally love eating different textures. Main dishes are 14 pounds, so I’d say it’s not an expensive place. I would love to come back here some days to try more from this menu. This time I went for a pretty basic dish of mixed vegetables, which was already amazing. I am curious for more!
Accessibility: there’s a massive step at the entrance, the place is packed and the toilet is very small. This place is therefore not accessible to people using a wheelchair. I also did not see any braille menu options.
Location: 46 W Richmond street, Edinburgh.

That’s it for now! I hope you’ll enjoy these lovely vegan restaurants in Edinburgh just as much as I did.

Yours sincerely,
Romee

ABOUT ME

when a teen goes green

Hi! My name is Romee and I live an eco-positive life. An eco-positive lifestyle is a lifestyle with more positive than negative impact on beautiful planet earth. Compared to most people, I live extremely sustainable. I don’t fly, eat meat or animal products, buy only secondhand clothing, etc. On the other hand, I try to help others as much as I can by donating a big chunk of my income, donating plasma, donating poop (yes!), volunteering, etc. On this blog you can read all about my lifestyle with only positive impact. I also have a Dutch Youtube channel (@duurzaamleven) and Dutch Instagram (@duurzaamlevenro). If you have specific questions for me, feel free to ask me anything.

Yours sincerely,
Romee (she/her)
