I finally found it: zero waste concealer! 10 years ago I started my zero waste journey in 2014 and since then I had never been able to find a completely zero waste concealer. I did found a low waste one, which I had been using since then. But times have changed, and after 8 years (in 2022) I found an entirely zero waste concealer. It’s the third item in my make-up stash that is entirely zero waste (the first two were foundation powder and blush). Today I want to tell you about this zero waste concealer. It’s made by Lush and available in all of The Netherlands.
Trix Stick Concealer by Lush
The zero waste concealer that I found is from Lush. And before I tell you more, I want to mention that this is not a sponsored post. None of my articles are sponsored, I bought this concealer myself. Now, with that being said: the zero waste concealer is called Trix Concealer and you can buy it at the Lush online store. It’s unfortunately not available in physical stores. It’s available in 11 colors and I think the colors are pretty inclusive (but someone of color would be better to access that than me). The Trix Concealer costs 17 euros. It’s not only zero waste, but a big chunk of the ingredients are organic, it’s vegan and handmade in the United Kingdom.
Zero Waste Concealer
Now, the amazing thing about the Trix Concealer is obviously that it’s entirely zero waste. But how? It becomes more apparent in the pictures bwlow, but I’ll try to explain it. The concealer is a bit like a lipstick, but then without the cover. The bottom of the concealer stick is covered in a black wax so that you can hold it without ruining it. The whole stick is stored in a small cardboard box which holds it very gently. I haven’t used it up this far, but I think you can use up the entire stick, even the part inside the wax. I am not entirely sure if the wax is compostable. Most wax products are and this one is plant-based, so I think so. But once I finish the entire stick, I”ll ask Lush to make sure. The cardboard box can be composted afterwards.
Using the Trix Concealer
I had never seen a concealer like the Trix Concealer. It’s different from everything else I’ve tried. But honestly, it’s the best thing I’ve tried so far. You can use it very gentle and enough concealer comes off. It’s also really easy to get out of the box when you use it. You just need to pull the paper inside and not grab the concealer itself. It’s very prone to damage so you should not touch the concealer itself, only the wax. The only downside so far is that in summer, I sometimes have to store it in the fridge. When it’s really hot, the concealer gets quite soft and then when you use it, I feel like it could break easily. But I don’t mind that too much. The fact that I have zero waste concealer is way more important to me.
Packaging by Lush
As you need to order this product online, the packaging it comes in is very important. If the concealer is zero waste but they pack the product with plastic for sending, that doesn’t make sense. Luckily, Lush ships its products itself, so this is well taken care of. The Trix Concealer was send in a really pretty cardboard box and no part was plastic. 100% compostable. To make sure the product does not move or break, there are white things in it which look like styrofoam. But they are not! These 100% compostable items made from corn. You can even drown them in water in your sink and they completely dissolve. Everything is thought of by Lush and it’s so amazing.
Upgrade from the old
This really is a big upgrade. The old low waste concealer that I had was great too, but not perfect. Because it was a stick with some plastic around it, it wasn’t entirely zero waste. And that had another downside: you could not use it up entirely. In the end, I really had to push my pinky in there to get everything out and I didn’t even manage to do so entirely. That wasted some concealer. With the new Trix Concealer I do not have that problem. I can use it up entirely and it’s 100% zero waste (if the wax is compostable).
I’ve been using this Lush Trix Concealer since november 2022, which is 16 months now. I don’t think I’m even at a third. So 17 euros for this concealer is not expensive for me personally. I wear make-up about once a week.
Yours sincerely,
Romee
